Areas of Work

People come to counselling for a wide variety of reasons. I provide a safe and confidential space in which to explore and express your thoughts, feelings and experiences.

This is a personal journey and with it can bring about many discoveries and understanding. I am open and accepting of whatever it is you wish and need to bring with you to the counselling sessions.

You may well find that you have a very specific reason for seeking counselling or you may find that there is an overlapping of several areas that you would like to find some clarity.

Addiction; Bereavement, Grief and Dying; Depression, low self esteem/confidence, stress and anxiety; Relationships; Self Exploration; Sexuality; Spirituality; Transitions; Work.

Addiction

Most of us are affected by addiction in some form. We may be the actual person in addiction or a family member/loved one of someone in addiction. There are may forms of addiction substance addiction of alcohol, drugs, cigarettes and food or behavioural addiction of gambling, work or sex.

The freedom  from pain and boredom that addiction offers, is in reality false. The isolation, loneliness and fear are only some of the feelings that come along with addiction as well as the physical damage.

Bereavement, Grief and Dying

You may be someone who is suffering from the loss of a loved one or is going through the process of losing someone. You may be the person who is dying. The process by which people cope and deal with grief and tragedy, especially when diagnosed with a terminal illness or experience a catastrophic loss is unique to the person experiencing them.

Grief is part of the human experience. Grief and the allowing of emotions is a natural process to death and dying and is a necessary response to helping heal from the overwhelming sense of loss when a loved one dies.

Depression, low self esteem/confidence, stress and anxiety

Depression is extremely common and can affect us at any point in our lives. It can leave us feeling very isolated and alone. We may find that it impacts on our confidence and self-esteem creating more anxiety and stress in our lives.

Talking about these overwhelming emotions and bringing our attention to what is going on that has lead to these feelings can bring clarity to overcoming their impact on our life.

Relationships

Relationship counselling can be for those who are in a marraige/partnership, it may be a family member or a friendship present, past or future. It may also be the lack of a relationship in your life. You may be experiencing disagrreements, misunderstandings and the breakdown of communication. It may be the loss or impending loss of a seperation or divorce. You may be experiencing some anxiety about an approaching wedding/cival partnership. There are times when we may feel confused, overwhelmed or concerned about what is happening in our relationship and wish to find clarity in how best to move forward.

Self Exploration

It is time out from our busy, external lives to take a look inside for self discovery.

This is a time for getting to know yourself, taking a deeper look at who you are and how you are in the world. It is a time for discovering more about your feelings, thoughts and behaviours as well as your dreams and aspirations.

Having a deeper understanding of ourselves helps us to accept who we are and why we do what we do, which improves our self-esteem, communication and relationships.

Sexuality

Our sexuality and issues relating to our sexuality can be deeply personal and difficult to talk about. You may have concerns around your desires, or having no desires, inability or capability. You may be feeling anxious about being gay or your gender. You may feel uneasy discussing your concerns with your partner. The exploration of your concerns can help find peace and  acceptance of who you are.

Spirituality

Spirituality is about transforming the heart by developing compassion. Bringing awareness and attention to how we think, to our actions and in our relationship to self and others. It is about being present moment to moment. Changes occur in our lives, and with it comes all the emotions, feelings and thoughts. We develop acceptance to who we are, what is here and how we are with it.

It is a journey of a deepening inner discovery that with it brings a greater sense of contentment. Your life just as it is, with its ups and downs, is the place to be to find inner peace and wisdom.

Transitions

Transitions are about change and are inevitable. They may be changes that you have chosen for yourself or have been unexpected. You may be in the process of deciding about making changes and how they will affect your life or have already made the changes. Transitions can bring many unforseen feelings and emotions leaving us feeling confused and unsettled.

Work

It may be about feeling dissatisfied in your current work, how you are feeling in your work place or thinking about changing your direction.

Purpose and satisfaction in our work can give meaning and fulfillment in our lives.

I offer supervision for those that wish to talk through issues and/or looking for support relating to their work.
