Questions often asked about Counselling

How might Counselling help?

All of us experience difficulties and challenges in our lives. There are often times when we are able to work through these ourselves. Some experiences, situations and emotions can feel overwhelming and may leave us with a sense of feeling stuck or lost as to a way of resolving the issues we are facing.

Counselling provides a safe, confidential, supportive and encouraging place in which to explore and express our thoughts and feelings of the events that have affect their life and their way of being in the world. Through this exploration of the issues, we can gain personal understanding, perspective, knowledge and skills in order to resolve the difficulties that we are experiencing. Allowing us to achieve greater personal fulfillment, motivation and acceptance so that we may move on in our life in a healthy way.

How long does counselling take?

Each person needs are different and therefore the length of time varies from person to person. We are each a unique individual bringing our own personal experiences, so the duration of counselling cannot be predicted.
It is the choice of each individual whether or not they wish to continue with the counselling process. There will always be time to discuss this and review your needs and progress from session to session.

Ending therapy is discussed and planned in advance.

How often does someone attend counselling?

This would be discussed in the first session and will depend on what is necessary to suit your needs. Normally counselling would be on a weekly or fortnightly basis. The pace of counselling is vital in allowing clients time between sessions to integrate their experience and to give continuity to the sessions. However, if someone needs more support extra sessions are usually offered.
